Math teacher Miriam Kabagorobya is one of the many news members of the Kingswood Oxford community this fall. She is joining our community as an Algebra II and Precalculus teacher, and we look forward to seeing the impact she has on the students of KO.
Ms. Kabagorobya is originally from Uganda, where she began her teaching career by helping students prepare for their national exams through the Educate! organization. “My job wasn’t to teach everything, but it was to help these students who have been preparing for their national exams,” she said. For her, the most important part of that experience was that her students were able to demonstrate that they were learning something.
When she came to the United States in 2017, Ms. Kabagorobya attended Rutgers’ Graduate School of Education and then continued her studies and worked as a TA at the Syracuse University College of Arts and Sciences. This is her first year teaching highschool students in the US!
Since coming to KO, Ms. Kabagorobya has been very impressed with the academic rigor and sense of community around campus. As someone who enjoys playing sports such as netball and basketball in her free time, she was happy to see students involved in afterschool sports and activities. “Sports and afterschool activities mean that every kid has something they go to after class, and that’s valuable,” she said. “It’s a really great part of the school.” Ms. Kabagorobya hopes to get involved with sports on campus herself, and she is eager to help coach basketball this winter.
When she’s not involved with athletics or teaching, Ms. Kabagorobya likes to take time to catch up and wind down, whether that’s by listening to music or staying in and watching a movie.
We welcome Ms. Kabagorobya to campus, and we can’t wait to see how she’ll contribute to the ever-vibrant KO community!
