Senior Farewell: Annabelle Jacobs

Features

Senior Annabelle Jacobs has brought her positivity, commitment, and leadership to the KO News staff for the past three years!

Annabelle began her time on the KO News as an Associate Features Editor, and this past year she brought her talents into the role of Head Reviews Editor. Annabelle was inspired to join the KO News because she felt it was a great opportunity to try something new, get involved in the community, and improve her writing.

Among all of Annabelle’s articles that she wrote for the KO News, her first-ever and last-ever were her favorites. Annabelle’s first article was a review of Playa Bowls. “I already loved Playa Bowls so much,” she shared, “but I went to Playa Bowls specifically [for the article], took notes sitting there, and when I finished the review, I was so proud of myself, and it was such a great moment.” Annabelle’s most recent article was reviewing the Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show, and, like each review she writes, Annabelle especially loved it because it gave her the opportunity to take something that she loved and turn it into a journalistic work.

Reflecting on the KO News experience, Annabelle especially values the structure of the staff and how everyone supports one another each step of the way. “I like being a part of something where everyone helps each other, everyone builds off of each other,” she said. “If I don’t complete something, the whole ladder falls down. I like the way that everyone is all connected and that we all rely on each other.”

Annabelle encourages students who are interested in the KO News not to shy away from the experience because of their preconceived notions about their writing. “It’s all about the dedication and your work ethic, how much time you put into it,” she reflected. “You can do it if you want to, and you can put in the effort and the hours as long as you have fun and enjoy it.” Annabelle also emphasized the importance of taking risks and embracing new experiences, noting how she made the leap from features to reviews and had an amazing experience

We are so grateful for all of Annabelle’s contributions to the KO News and we wish her the best of luck as she heads to the University of Virginia in the fall to study speech communication disorders!
