Francesca Lamattina Senior Farewell

Features

Senior Francesca Lamattina has spent three incredibly influential years on the staff of the KO News. After taking journalism with English and journalism teacher Cathy Schieffelin the spring of her freshman year, she joined the staff as an Associate Arts Editor the following fall of her sophomore year. Since applying and receiving the position her junior year, she has been the Head Arts Editor.

“As an Associate Arts Editor, I got assigned some arts articles by my Head Editor,” she said. “I would write articles about the Musician of the Month, the Artist of the Month, and any events going on.” As the Head Arts Editor, she had most of the same tasks, with some added responsibilities, such as editing the work of other writers and more decision-making power in choosing which articles were to be written.

One thing Francesca loves about the KO News is connecting with people she has never talked to through interviews. “I always learn something really interesting about people that I wouldn’t have known just by talking to them on a day-to-day basis,” she said. Two experiences she recalls learning about from her peers are outside of school music production and life on a farm.

Francesca recognizes the lessons that working on the KO News has taught her. She has learned how to collaborate better with others and effectively work on a deadline.

“The KO News really helped me develop my analytical and reporting skills, and I really value all the time I got to spend with the rest of the staff,” she said. We wish Francesca the best in her future endeavors!
