From Associate Editor to Head Editor of News, senior Curran Dee has steadily grown into a thoughtful, dedicated leader on the KO News staff. Since joining the paper his junior year, Curran has brought curiosity, clarity, and calm to every aspect of the news department, especially during tight deadlines and long production days. As Head Editor of News, he valued the opportunity to give back to the staff and serve as a mentor to younger writers – just as older staff members had once guided him.
Curran originally joined the KO News to strengthen his writing and share stories with the community, and in doing so, he discovered a passion for journalistic storytelling. One of his most memorable pieces was his first: a front-page article on Convocation that remains a personal favorite. Over the years, Curran’s work has been marked by strong reporting and thoughtful perspective – skills he credits to the real-world experience the paper provided, from interviewing to working under pressure to communicating effectively with peers.
Beyond the articles, Curran found joy in the collaborative spirit of the newsroom, especially the energy of planning meetings and the camaraderie of News Days. “It’s just really nice to come together as a whole group and work on the paper,” he reflected. He’ll miss those moments most of all, along with the chance to explore the KO community from so many new angles.
As Curran heads off to his next chapter, we know he’ll carry his talent and dedication wherever he goes. The newspaper won’t be the same without him!
